ACA MARKETPLACE

ACA Marketplace & Obamacare Plans in Florida

Confused by HealthCare.gov? We help Florida residents understand subsidies, compare metal tiers, and enroll in the right Marketplace plan — for free.

Do you qualify for a subsidy?

Many Floridians qualify for premium tax credits that dramatically lower their monthly cost — and don't realize it. We'll review your household size and estimated income to see what savings you may be eligible for before you pick a plan.

Bronze, Silver, Gold — which tier fits?

Metal tiers balance monthly premiums against out-of-pocket costs. A lower premium isn't always cheaper overall. We walk you through how each tier works so you choose based on how you actually use care.

We handle the paperwork with you

From verifying your application to making sure your doctors and prescriptions are covered, we sit with you through enrollment so nothing falls through the cracks.

Potential tax advantages

Self-employed individuals may be able to deduct health insurance premiums. We're not tax advisors, but we'll help you understand which plans pair well with the strategies your accountant recommends.

OPEN ENROLLMENT 2026

Open Enrollment 2026: Dates & How to Prepare

Open Enrollment is the one window each year when anyone can enroll or change plans. Don't miss it — and don't navigate it alone.

Mark your calendar

Open Enrollment for individual and Marketplace coverage generally runs in the late fall through mid-winter window. Exact dates can shift year to year, so reach out early and we'll confirm the current deadlines for your situation.

Missed the window? You may still qualify

Life events like losing job coverage, moving, marriage, or having a baby can trigger a Special Enrollment Period. We'll check whether you qualify to enroll outside the standard window.

Review before you auto-renew

Plans change every year — networks, drug formularies, and prices all move. An auto-renewed plan can quietly become the wrong plan. We'll review yours before it renews so you're never overpaying.

Term, whole, or final expense?

Term life covers you for a set number of years at the lowest cost. Whole life builds cash value and lasts a lifetime. Final expense is a smaller policy designed to cover funeral and end-of-life costs. We help you choose based on your goals and budget.

Coverage that fits your family

The right amount of life insurance depends on your income, debts, and the people counting on you. We'll walk through a simple needs assessment so you're neither underinsured nor overpaying.

Independent means more options

SUPPLEMENTAL & ACCIDENT

Supplemental & Accident Insurance in Florida

Even good health plans leave gaps. Supplemental and accident coverage helps protect you from the surprise costs a major plan won't fully cover.

Get a free quote Call 239-841-6024

What supplemental insurance covers

Critical illness, hospital indemnity, and accident plans pay cash benefits directly to you when covered events happen. That money can go toward deductibles, copays, rent, or anything else while you recover.

Accident plans for active families

Sports, work, and everyday life carry risk. Accident insurance helps cover ER visits, X-rays, and follow-up care so a broken bone doesn't become a broken budget.

Layer it with your main plan

Supplemental coverage isn't a replacement for major medical — it works alongside it. We'll show you where your primary plan has gaps and which add-ons actually make sense for your situation, at no cost to you.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Health Insurance Questions, Answered

Straight answers to the questions Florida families ask us most.

Get a free quote Call 239-841-6024

Does using a broker cost me anything?

No. Our service is 100% free to you. Insurance carriers pay broker commissions, and your premium is identical whether you use us or go directly to the carrier — you just get expert help at no extra cost.

What does a health insurance broker actually do?

We learn your situation, compare plans across many carriers, explain your real options in plain English, help you enroll, and stay available all year for claims questions and plan changes.

Are you tied to one insurance company?

No. We're independent, meaning we represent many major carriers including UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Cigna, and more. We work for you, not for any single company.

Do you offer service in Spanish?

Yes. Adrian is fully bilingual and serves clients in both English and Spanish.

MARKETPLACE VS. PRIVATE

Marketplace vs. Private Health Insurance in Florida

Both can offer solid coverage — the right one depends on your income, your household, and whether you qualify for a subsidy. Here's how they actually compare.

Get a free quote Call 239-841-6024

What "Marketplace" actually means

The ACA Marketplace (HealthCare.gov) is a government-run exchange where you shop plans from participating carriers side-by-side. Its main advantage is that it's the only place to apply for premium tax credits and cost-sharing reductions, which can lower your monthly premium significantly if your household income qualifies.

What "private" or off-exchange means

Private health insurance is purchased directly through a carrier or a broker, outside the government exchange. The plans themselves are often identical to what's offered on the Marketplace — same carrier, same network, same benefits — but you can't apply subsidies to an off-exchange plan, and off-exchange plans sometimes include options the Marketplace doesn't list.

How we help you decide

We start by checking whether your household qualifies for a subsidy. If it does, a Marketplace plan is usually the better deal. If it doesn't — for example, your income is too high, or you're in a coverage gap — we compare off-exchange and other private options to find the lowest real cost for the coverage you need.

PLAN TYPES EXPLAINED

PPO vs. HMO in Florida: Which Fits You?

The plan type matters as much as the price. Here's the real difference between the two most common structures we see Florida families choose between.

Get a free quote Call 239-841-6024

HMO: lower cost, more structure

HMO plans generally have lower premiums and require you to choose a primary care physician who coordinates your care and refers you to specialists within the network. There's usually no coverage for out-of-network care except emergencies, so your doctors need to already be in-network.

PPO: more flexibility, higher cost

PPO plans let you see specialists without a referral and offer some out-of-network coverage, usually at a higher out-of-pocket cost. Premiums tend to run higher than a comparable HMO, but if you travel often or want to keep a specific out-of-network doctor, the flexibility can be worth it.

Which one is right for you?

If you already have doctors you want to keep, we check their network status first — that alone often settles the question. If you're healthy and mainly want a lower premium, an HMO is usually the more efficient choice. We'll walk through your specific doctors, medications, and budget before recommending either.

ACA SUBSIDIES

What Income Qualifies for ACA Subsidies in Florida?

Premium tax credits can cut your Marketplace premium substantially — but eligibility depends on household size and estimated income, not just your paycheck.

Get a free quote Call 239-841-6024

It's based on household income, not just yours

Subsidy eligibility is calculated using your household's estimated Modified Adjusted Gross Income (MAGI) for the year and the number of people in your tax household — not simply your individual salary. Two people with the same job can qualify very differently depending on who else is on their tax return.

There isn't a hard income cutoff anymore

Under current rules, there's no fixed upper income limit that disqualifies you outright — instead, the subsidy amount is calculated as a percentage of income relative to the federal poverty line for your household size. That means it's worth checking even if you assumed you'd earn "too much" to qualify.

We run the estimate with you

Because subsidies are based on an estimate of the year's income, guessing wrong can mean owing money back at tax time or leaving savings on the table. We walk through your expected income for the year together and help you pick a subsidy amount that's realistic, so there are no surprises later.

LOSING EMPLOYER COVERAGE

Health Insurance After Losing Your Job in Florida

Losing employer coverage triggers a Special Enrollment Period — you don't have to wait for Open Enrollment, but your options and timing matter.

Get a free quote Call 239-841-6024

You get a 60-day Special Enrollment Period

Losing job-based coverage qualifies you for a Special Enrollment Period on the Marketplace, giving you roughly 60 days from the date coverage ends to enroll in a new plan without waiting for annual Open Enrollment. Missing that window can mean going without coverage until the next enrollment period.

COBRA vs. a new Marketplace plan

COBRA lets you keep your exact employer plan, but you typically pay the full premium yourself — often far more than a Marketplace plan with a subsidy would cost for similar coverage. We compare the real monthly cost of COBRA against Marketplace options side-by-side before you decide.

Timing your income estimate correctly

Your subsidy eligibility is based on your income for the rest of the year, not what you were earning while employed. If your income has dropped since losing your job, you may qualify for a much larger subsidy than expected — we help you estimate this accurately so you don't overpay or underpay.

IMMIGRATION STATUS & COVERAGE

Can Immigrants Buy Health Insurance in Florida?

Coverage options generally depend on immigration status. Here's a general overview — we can walk through your specific situation privately and confidentially.

Get a free quote Call 239-841-6024

Lawfully present immigrants can use the Marketplace

Immigrants with lawful status — including green card holders, asylees, refugees, and several other categories — can generally purchase ACA Marketplace plans and, depending on income, may qualify for premium tax credits, sometimes even before meeting the 5-year Medicaid waiting period that applies to some other programs.

Undocumented individuals typically use private, off-exchange coverage

Immigration status is generally verified for Marketplace enrollment, so undocumented individuals typically cannot enroll through HealthCare.gov. However, private, off-exchange health insurance, and in some cases fixed-indemnity or discount medical plans, are usually available directly through carriers or a broker regardless of immigration status.

We keep the conversation private

Every consultation with our office is confidential, and we're simply here to explain what coverage options exist for your situation — not to verify or report immigration status. If you're unsure what applies to you, the most reliable next step is a private conversation rather than guessing based on general rules.

SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS

Health Insurance for Small Business Owners in Fort Myers

Whether you have a handful of employees or it's just you, there's usually a more efficient way to offer or buy coverage than the first option you're quoted.

Get a free quote Call 239-841-6024

Group coverage isn't always the cheapest answer

Many small business owners assume a group plan is the only professional option, but depending on your employee count and budget, options like ICHRA (Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Arrangements) can let you reimburse employees for individual plans they choose themselves — often at a lower, more predictable cost to the business.

If it's just you, you're shopping as an individual

Solo business owners with no W-2 employees typically don't qualify for small-group plans and instead shop the individual and family Marketplace — the same one we help self-employed clients navigate, including checking for subsidy eligibility based on your business income.

We compare structures, not just premiums

Before recommending group coverage, an HRA, or individual plans for your team, we look at your headcount, budget, and how much control you want over plan design. The goal is the lowest real cost for coverage your employees will actually use.

PICKING THE RIGHT PLAN

How to Choose the Right Deductible for Your Health Plan

A lower premium with a high deductible isn't automatically the better deal — it depends on how often you actually use care.

Get a free quote Call 239-841-6024

The trade-off: premium vs. deductible

Generally, plans with lower monthly premiums have higher deductibles, and plans with higher premiums have lower deductibles. The right balance depends on whether you'd rather pay predictably every month or pay less monthly and more if you need care.

If you rarely see a doctor

A higher deductible plan with a lower premium often makes sense if you're generally healthy, don't take regular medications, and want to guard mainly against a major medical event rather than pay for coverage you rarely use.

If you have ongoing care or medications

If you see specialists regularly, manage a chronic condition, or take maintenance medications, a lower deductible plan often saves more overall, even with a higher premium, because you'll hit your out-of-pocket costs faster and predictably every year. We run the math on your actual usage before recommending either direction.
